Shkodra Lake, also known as Lake Skadar or Lake Scutari, is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula, straddling the border between Albania and Montenegro. Its Albanian name is Liqeni i Shkodrës and in Montenegrin it’s Skadarsko jezero.

• Location: Situated in the Zeta-Skadar valley, bordered by steep karst mountains, approximately 20 km from the Adriatic Sea.
• Size: Its surface area fluctuates significantly with the seasons, ranging from 370 km² in the summer to as much as 530 km² in the winter due to varying rainfall and inflow. The Montenegrin side is slightly larger than the Albanian part.
• Shape: It extends in a northwest-southeast direction, with a length of about 44 km and a width of up to 14 km.
